I have spent over two decades working with and thinking about decorative arts. Furniture, ceramics, sculpture, silver, tapestries, costume, arms and armour, almost anything that is conceived to be ornamental or decorative. These objects are often considered less ‘important’ than paintings, yet they have formed and continue to form a central part of our lives, reflecting and embodying our cultures in much more direct ways than any picture. However, they are often hard to understand and appreciate. Ornament is an informal attempt to interpret and discuss some of these fascinating pieces. I’d be delighted if you subscribed. Thank you.
